Daily puzzle

Spot the bug

One pain.001 fragment a day, one broken rule. Find it, learn the fix, keep your streak.

Linty is picking today’s fragment…

How it works

  1. Read the fragment: a few lines of a synthetic pain.001 credit transfer file.
  2. Pick the rule it breaks. Some bugs are in the ISO 20022 schema, most in SEPA rules.
  3. See why, how to fix it and the corrected XML. Come back tomorrow to keep your streak.

Want to know them all? The rule reference lists every check, and the free validator runs them on your own file.

Questions

What is Spot the bug?

A one-minute daily puzzle for people who work with payment files. Every day there is a short pain.001 XML fragment that breaks one validation rule, and you pick which rule it is.

How does it work?

A new fragment appears every day at midnight UTC. Choose one of four rules; the answer shows why the fragment breaks it, the corrected XML and the rule page. Your streak grows with every day you answer correctly.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free and needs no account. Your streak and statistics are kept in this browser only and are never sent to BankLint.

Where do the fragments come from?

They are synthetic examples from the BankLint rule reference: 16 rules from the ISO 20022 schema and the SEPA Credit Transfer implementation guidelines. No real payment data is used.
